Sunnybrook Sanctuary sits along a calm river on the southeastern shore of Nova Scotia, tucked among the evergreens and designed to feel like it belongs there.
Craftsman Construction built the home across two distinct wings: one for communal living, kitchen, and dining; the other for bedrooms and a home office. Connecting them is a glass-lined breezeway that transforms what could have been a basic functional corridor into one of the most compelling spaces in the home.
The build called for a careful balance of Atlantic Canadian coastal character and clean contemporary lines. Cedar shingles, warm wood interiors, and low stone retaining walls honour that coastal tradition, while the restrained modern detailing keeps it feeling current. Executing that balance is where Craftsman's attention to detail shows most. The materials need to age well, the work must be precise, and nothing can feel out of place.
Interior designer Jamie Black carried that same thoughtfulness indoors, bringing a restrained palette and carefully chosen finishes that let the landscape remain the focal point. The kitchen opens naturally to the living and dining areas, keeping the home relaxed and easy to move through. High-performance Marvin windows with unobstructed views to the trees and shoreline flood the interior with natural light across every season.
Sunnybrook Sanctuary is the kind of project that only comes together when every part of the process is handled with care. A home shaped by its surroundings and built to stand up to all of them.
